BP 2. commodity+firmness+delight all around us.

There are many things that make a buildings worth looking at, but there are only a few buildings that are worth looking at and worth lasting. 

For example, Pont du Guard represents commodity, firmness, and delight. Having been built in ca. 25 B.C.E. the firmness is impecable. It is still standing to this day. Although it does not serve much for commodity today, it served a purpose for the time when it was built. The technology at the time was nothing like it was today, yet it still has better quality than most of the architecture from this time. Therefore  it has high commodity and firmness. It is also very high in delight. It is hard to find someone who does not think that it is pleasing to the eye. It is also on the axis to a a major city in France. 

So what on our own campus can compare to Pont du Guard?

 Nothing really can compare to the greatness of Pont du Guard, but along the same principles, the entrance to the Jackson Library serves the same purpose.  The Jackson Library was built in 1948 and it was built with the intention it still serves today. The arrangement of the library is very useful for the purpose intended. The form of it is able to withstand all types of weather. It is firm, that it is able to support the weight of many books, computer, and other things that the library serve. The library very appealing in delight. It is a point at where the campus congregates to. It is the center of campus to where Walker street intersects the campus.

Design Manifesto

How do i view design? As a designer I takes a lot of things and turn them around as see how crazy and fun I can make it. I think that the best things in life are things that I enjoy, and I make design fun, so that I enjoy it. I also like to make design so that it is affordable. There are many people who can't afford good design therefore they have to settle for bad design. Why? There should not be a reason to settle for bad design.

Malawi.

When researching Malawi, it didn't take long to figure out that this was a very unfortunate country. Therefore, social networking within the country is not huge. Although the people in the slums can't read, there are still newspaper available to them, but the few that are fortunate do have call phones and other ways to network. These people would consist of the government, drug lords, an\d people traffickers. Sex trafficking for children is a a big thing within the country. The ones who run it are the ones who can afford nice things. There business is also hard to do without networking and technology. It is sad to think the people that network are the ones who ruin the countries. The government also needs things to network, or else they would not be able to function without it. They would not be able to deal with foreign and domestic affairs without it.

UNCG | Blog Post 1

Space. Power. Experience. Principles. Precedent. Order. Scale. Technology. Surface. Size.
We have learned how these principles have been applied to the ancient world, so now we get to mis it up and apply it to our everyday surroundings.
SPACE
UNCG is oriented between two main streets, Spring Garden and Market. The space around Spring Garden is more focused on Academics. Although there are a few living areas on Spring Garden, they are more independent living centers. They are apartments and suites that are mainly for upperclassman. The academics primarily dominate Spring Garden. Market Street are is the opposite. There is only one academic building on that side of Campus, while the rest of the buldings are dorms. This is also the the side of the campus that the caf is on. As you will see in most spaces, people live where the food is. So the living space is primarily on that side of campus
POWER
The majority of the power on campus is oriented in the center. The main buildings on campus would be the EUC, the Faculty Center, and the Alumni House. The reasoning behind this would be they are the most popular or the things that go on inside of them have the most authority over the campus. They are surrounded by other things that make up the campus such as dorms, parking decks. academic buildings, and sports facilities. These building act as some what of a wall from the rest of the city, protecting the center of campus.
EXPERIENCE
The progression on the campus would start at the library since it is the one building that does not blend in with the rest of the campus. Then your attention be on the EUC because of the field that leads up to it and then the circle that the lobby of the building is made from. Next it would be the parking decks, then to the dorms, then the caf, then to the athletic fields, finally to the academic buildings. The irony of this progression is that this is not the order that we value these place within out lives. If we did the order of importance it would be the academics, athletics, dorms, EUC, caf, library, then parking deck.
PRECEDENT
Over time the university has transformed im many ways over our history. The precedent from the beginning was only women. UNCG began as a women's college that was represented as minerva. She represents UNCG well being the goddess of wisdom and having so much power that she was often compared to Zeus. UNCG's campus and the Parthenon are similar that the center of campus is the one with the most power and the most popular, and also where our own statue of Athena is, while the Parthenon in the Acropolis is the most popular and also has a statue of Athena.
SITE
UNCG is located in within the city of Greensboro and is surrounded by other universities within a very close range. While other schools like Guilford, which is small private school, are on the outskirts of the city. The site within the city shows the importance of the school to the city of Greensboro.
SCALE
The center of the university is also where the largest of the buildings are. The EUC and the library are the largest buildings on campus. Being in the center it shows that the scale of the university diminishes in size as you get farther from the center.
TECHNOLOGY
Technology is a big part of our campus. Without technology, the university would probably go up in flames. Whether it be personal technology or technology that is campus wide, our present lives would not be able to function. Our generation is known as the iphone generation. You can walk across campus and see multiple forms of technology, such as. ipod, cell phones, motor scooters, laptops, blue tooth's, and countless others. There is also invisible technology. The wireless that is transmitted campus wide is what keeps the campus functioning. This is a way that a student can submit last minute homework on the way to class. Our university also depends on the internet for the blackboard system, which is what teachers use to communicate with their students. Needless to say, our university could not function without technology.
